School Profile

Walnut Grove School opened in August, 2009, currently serving 700 students, grades K-8. The school is staffed with 22 teachers. Our student population is 84% Hispanic/Latino, 13% White, .02% African-American, with a free and reduced lunch rate of 75% and with 58% of our students English Learners. 5% of our students are enrolled in our Special Education Program. The Walnut Grove School Dual Language Academy is providing an enrichment program dedicated to building a student body that is bilingual, biliterate and multicultural. This is being achieved by providing a comprehensive core curriculum in conjunction with instruction in Spanish. Beginning in Kindergarten, 50% of instruction will take place in Spanish and 50% of the instruction is in English (50:50 ratio). This pattern progresses until the 5th grade where it then becomes and stays 50% in Spanish and 50% in English (50:50). The dual immersion program will continue through 8th grade, and biliteracy recognitions are held at 5th and 8th grade. Our G.A.T.E. students (grades 3-8), are served during our daily 45 minute rotation program. We have implemented a 1 to Web student chromebook program in grades 6-8.  Each middle school student has a district issued chromebook for the school year.  Staff is working diligently, continually monitoring the way we do business to give Walnut Grove School students the support they need each year.  We have high expectations of ourselves and our students!
